December 20, 1990 | Surrey

Two men were killed in a single car accident about 3 a.m. Wednesday when they drove off the left side of the road and flipped into a tree.

Don Robert Gibbs, 30, a construction worker who lived in Smithfield, owned the 1986 Ford Mustang but was in the passenger seat at the time of the accident, police said.

The driver was Arbury Damon Hooker, 18, of Carrollton.

The accident occurred on Route 617 about 1.5 miles north of Route 626 when the driver apparently drove off the left side of the road, said Trooper T. J. Cross Jr. The roof of the car hit a tree as the car overturned, killing both men, Cross said.
